Preschool Special Education

The LBPKC offers preschool special education programs for children with IEPs that recommend Special Class 12:1:2 or Special Class with an Integrated Setting (SCIS)

Preschool special education services are available for children ages 3 to 5 with disabilities or delays in development that affect learning. These services are provided free of charge to eligible children. For many children, these services can be provided in an inclusive 3-K or Pre-K for all classroom, where children with and without disabilities learn together.

Services We Provide

Special Class 12:1:2

This is a classroom that only serves students with IEPs whose needs cannot be met within the general education settings or SCIS classroom. Students in a special class have similar levels of academic and learning characteristics, social development, physical development, and/or management needs. Special classes are led by a special education teacher and two paraprofessionals.

Related Services (RS)

This includes physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), speech/language therapy (ST), counseling, orientation and mobility services, hearing, and health services. Related services support academic goals.

Integrated Classes (SCIS)

This is a classroom in which students (4K & 3K) with or without IEPs are educated together. A SCIS class includes a general education & special education teacher and at least two classroom paraprofessionals. Staff members work together throughout the day to adapt and modify instruction for students with IEPs to ensure the entire class has access to the general education curriculum.

SEED
Sensory - Exploration - Education - Discovery

The Little Brooklyn Pre-K Center has a wonderful opportunity to participate in the NYC DOE SEED program. SEED is an acronym for Sensory Exploration, Education, and Discovery. This sensory movement program is specifically for students who receive Occupational Therapy services. All sessions are under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist and/ or Physical Therapist.

At this time, we are currently enrolling students for Cycle 2 starting in January. Please reach out to the Little Brooklyn Pre-K Center Administration team to learn more!
